The speculation surrounding The Game Awards has been intense, particularly after host Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic image of a strange statue. The mystery has now been solved. Larian Studios is creating a brand-new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer packed with intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very descent into chaos.
A Different Direction
Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian warned that a direct sequel to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.
That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This phrasing suggests that the team is likely designing a real-time experience rather than another tactical title. At this moment, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it pioneered the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—qualities that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of specialized paths you can achieve if you're playing as a distinct build with a personal story.
The series is also wonderfully flexible, letting players to improvise both in story and combat. Most missions can be solved in multiple ways, sometimes in unexpected fashion.
- You might progress the story because you heeded something a dog told you.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a inventive way.
The Journey Continues
It is this design philosophy that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games in history. Now, the RPG community can get ready for a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
